Addressing new expectations for the future of health

The past few years have seen a seismic shift in the entire healthcare landscape. The COVID-19 crisis required a new level of “always-on” and “right now” innovation to enable care to be delivered to the front lines, to all patients, and across geographies. As COVID-19 evolves from an acute crisis to a chronic issue with unpredictable ebbs and flows, the hyper-focused approach to innovation is more important than ever. The world now knows what we can do, even when conditions are less than optimal. Our focus on helping patients by getting the best evidence, tools, and support to clinicians demonstrated the power of collaboration, imagination and dedication. Moving forward, patients and healthcare partners will accept nothing less than that level of commitment to transform the future of health forever.

EU move on mergers threatens innovation

At first sight, EU policy on mergers and acquisitions might not need to concern patients and frontline healthcare workers too much. However, a subtle shift in the rules on whether two companies can agree to become one could have a profound impact on access to medical innovation. To understand why this might be, it’s important […]

Accelerating medtech innovation in paediatrics

For start-ups working in paediatrics, competitions can offer funding, exposure and invaluable access to mentorship.   Despite advances in medical technology, the fruits of progress are not shared equally across age groups. One of the biggest challenges we see in the paediatric domain, and especially among those younger in the age spectrum, is the lack […]

Closing the innovation loop: how start-ups can show value

One of my great frustrations is to see start-ups fall at the final hurdle. Too many early-stage companies with promising innovations spend their energy – and funds – answering crucial questions about the safety and effectiveness of their products, only to find that they have no answers to the additional questions asked by payers.   […]

Patients don’t care about technology – they care about quality of life

Everything we know about healthcare will be totally different in twenty years. But while breath-taking new technologies become available, I believe our most important task is to integrate them in a way that always benefits patients. Emerging medical technologies are fantastic tools with which we can completely reimagine the continuum of care. We can redesign […]
